Review of Proposed Policy Direction

On July 4th the Community Design Advisory Committee (CDAC) started its review of proposed policy direction (possible changes to the Regional Plan).

Over the next two months, five draft policy direction documents will be presented to the CDAC for their discussion and recommendation.  To see the CDAC Policy Review Schedule, visit the PlanHRM website.

RP+5 Survey – deadline May 15

As part of the first phase of consultations, we are inviting members of the public to participate in an online survey. The survey is organized around the five themes of the review. Even if you attended one of the meetings, we encourage you to fill out the survey. The results will be part of the community engagement record and will inform changes to the Regional Plan. Deadline for submissions is May 15; we hope you will take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey and give us your feedback on your future HRM.

Public Consultation Update

Seven meetings and a kick off event attended by over 500 citizens in person, and by another 61 online during live-streamed events, were recently held in various HRM communities to discuss what has changed since the 2006 Regional Plan was adopted and how key policies need to address current challenges and future opportunities.

Stakeholder meetings with key groups and organizations will continue to be held over the next month as part of the public consultation program.

A summary of the public consultation comments submitted during the meetings, online during live-streaming and this blog, via email, and letters will be compiled and responses prepared by staff for distribution to key Council committees and the public. The summary document will be posted on this blog once complete.

Phase III of public consultation meetings are planned for September, however it’s important to stay engaged through this blog, and the communications channels listed at the bottom of the page to continue to discuss key issues that are important to you and your community.

Stay tuned!

Welcome to the Regional Plan 5 Year Review Blog

PlanHRM is the citizen portal for information about regional & community planning projects, including RP+5, HRMbyDesign Centre Plan, and community visioning.

The Regional Plan 5 Year Review (RP+5) is an issues based review process. Many of the policies approved in the 2006 Regional Plan have been successful in improving the overall liveability and sustainability of HRM’s communities. However changing economic and environmental conditions over the past five years have highlighted policies in need of improvement and a change in direction. It is important to note that the Regional Plan is a high level document that outlines enabling policy which directs HRM to create secondary planning strategies and land use by-laws that implement those policies. Updated policies approved by Council as part of RP+5 may require amendments to the HRM Charter prior to implementation.
